How many times have you seen a new Auction site build itself as the next Ebay? I know I have seen several all state the exact same thing. Couple of questions, why did they build their Auction site? Did they want to be like Ebay? Of course not. They wanted to be different.

Let’s take a guy named Micheal. He wanted to build Computers and sell them. The big name at that time was IBM. Remember all computers were dubbed IBM Compatible! (Dating myself here)

Allot of people were building Micheal’s Company as the “Next IBM”. Micheal didn’t want to be known as the “Next IBM”, he wanted to be know as the “First DELL”!!

Thats right, Micheal Dell didn’t want his computer or company to be know as the next IBM. His business model was different, his computers were different. The marketing of Dell was totally different than IBM, and still is today.

You have to shape your own company, not build yourself or company as the Next Whatever, but let it be the First _____ (You fill in the Blank)! Your goals of your auction site is different than Ebay’s. Your marketing will be different, your company ethics, everything will be different. Be the First, not the Next!
